MADE IN CHINA not the PRC

Yes MADE in CHINA

not the People's Republic
but tHE wORLD fAMOUS
CATHAY de GRANDE *
a block off Hollywood & Vine
@ Selma and Argyle
It looks the same really the
block of buildings from the 1920's
still exist offices and such and the
Cathay is there SORT OF it is the
uPSide DoWn CLUB religious in nature

I REMEMBER THOUGH...

remembering reasons why
yet no specific validation
I mean it wasn't in Zagat
there was food [???] served Thai I hear
WE PARTIED IN THE KITCHEN not ate

along with the Olympic and then Paladium
there was this club to go to after gigs
that was way cool WALK IN to the left the BAR
to the right past the cigarette machine

and down the stairs

the bands
WATCH OUT THEY'RE STEEP...
Every band in L.A. hung out here
from Phranc to Flea
AND WE ARE ALL FRIENDS HERE

and we parked across the street parking lot
but not the one on the same block because
that's where all the brawls happened.
sometimes I parked on Argyle right in
front watching someone
shoot up to the outside light
of one of the offices down from the club
the CLUB, 'a real goat farm ' *
said one of my longtime friends JEFF SAID.

THE REAL EXCITEMENT WAS DOWNSTAIRS
there was a small bar down there too and many
red restaurant booths and metal chairs,
the chairs would sometimes be flung about
' hey that was my nose man '
PARACHUTE ceilings crappy sound
undefinable heat sweat
and lots of ANGST

Texacala Jones Top Jimmy Mentors
and thousands of punk bands
played this fantastically raw venue
very hardcore every punk for themselves
that is the anthem isn't it.
One day I went to
Cathay
and ended up in dISNeYlAND...
